Solution

The correct option is C

Zone of maturation

In most vascular plants, roots are underground structures that anchor the plant and provide a means to absorb the nutrients and water needed for growth of the plant body. Root hairs are mainly found in the zone of maturation. A typical root contains different regions starting at the tip and moving upwards towards the stem i.e., the root cap, the meristematic zone, the zone of elongation, and the zone of maturation. In the zone of maturation, some of the epidermal cells form very fine, delicate, thread-like structures called root hairs. These root hairs absorb water and minerals from the soil.
