Open in App
Solution

Let the salary of an officer be Rs x
50% increase in salary = (50/100)x = (x/2)
New salary = Rs x + Rs (x/2) = Rs (3x/2)
To reduce the new salary to the 10% of original salary, change in salary = 3x/2 - (x * 10/100)
= 3x/2 - x/10
= 7x/5
Percentage decrease fraction numerator 7 x divided by 5 over denominator 3 x divided by 2 end fraction cross times space 100
fraction numerator 7 x over denominator 5 end fraction cross times fraction numerator 2 over denominator 3 x end fraction cross times 100 14 over 15 cross times 100 equals space 93.33 percent sign
Hence the new salary must be reduced by 93.33%.
