The same force produces less pressure if it acts on a large area but it can produce high pressure if it acts on a small area. Explain .

Solution

Pressure is defined as the Force per unit area. Pressure = force/area. So, obviously pressure is directly proportional to force and inversely proportional to area.

Hence when a force is applied over a large area, the force is spread out and the pressure is low and when the same force is applied on a small area the force is concentrated on a small area and the pressure is much higher.
