Strawberries develop from a single flower that is having multiple numbers of the gynoecium. Individual ovaries are called fruitlets and arranged around a thick part of the stem called receptacle. It is also called aggregate fruit. Other examples include raspberry, blackberry etc. In a young fruit, carpels are removed within a few days after pollination.
