The shape of the top surface of a table is trapezium. Its parallel are sides are 1 m and 1.4 m and the perpendicular distance between them is 0.9 m. Find its area.

Parallel sides of the trapezium = 1m , 1.4 m Perpendicular distance between them = 0.9 m

$\therefore$ Area = $\frac{\text{Sum of parallel sides}}{2}\times altitude$

= $\frac{1.4+1}{2}\times 0.9=\frac{2.4}{2}\times 0.9m^2$

= $1.2\times 0.9=1.08m^2$
