Question

The solubility of ammonium chloride in water at various temperatures is given below :

Temperature : 10C 20C 40C 60C 80C

Solubility : 24 g 37 g 41 g 55 g 66 g

What mass of ammonium chloride would be needed to make a saturated solution of ammonium chloride in fifty grams of water at 40C ?

Solution

According to question:
Solubility at 40oC = 41 g
But, solubility = solid dissolved in 100 grams of water in a solution
So, mass of ammonium chloride needed to make a saturated solution of ammonium chloride in 50 g of water at 40oC = 412 g = 20.5 g
