Spadix is a type of simple racemose inflorescence. It is a modification of catkin in which the peduncle (primary stalk of the inflorescence) is thick and fleshy and is called spike. Its upper part is sterile and lower part bears one or both the types of unisexual flowers surrounded by a large often brightly coloured bract called spathe. It is found in Colocasia, banana, maize, etc.
