Question

The specific conductivity of a saturated solution of silver chloride is 2.30×106mho cm1 at 25C. Calculate the solubility of silver chloride at 25C if λAg+=61.9 mho cm2mol1 and λCl=76.3 mho cm2mol1.

Solution

Let the solubility of AgCl be S gram mole per litre
Dilution=1000S
AgCl=λAg++λCl
=61.9+76.3
=138.2 mho cm2mol1
Sp.conductivity×Dilution=AgCl=138.2
2.30×106×1000S=138.2
S=2.30×103138.2=1.66×104mol per litre
=1.66×105×143.5 gL1=2.382×103gL1.
