Question

The speed of a separately excited dc motor is controlled by two single phase full converters, one in armature circuit and other in the field circuit. Both converters are fed from same 1ϕ,230 V,50 Hz source. Armature resistance is 0.5 Ω and field circuit resistance is 200 Ω . Firing angle for converter connected to field is zero and motor constant is 0.8 V-s/rad. Armature and field current are continuous and ripple free. If the armature current is 30 A and motor speed is 25.25 rps, then firing angle of armature converter will be______ degree.

Solution

For field controlled converter,

α=0

Field voltage,Vf=2Vmπ=22×230π=207.072 V

Field current,If=VfRf=207.072200=1.035 A

For armature of motor we can write KVL,

Va=Vt=Ea+IaRa

22×230πcosα=(K.If)2πN60+30×0.5

Where, Motor speed , n = 25.5 rps

Motor speed in rpm, N=25.25×60=1515 rpm

22×230πcosα=(0.8×1.035)×2π×151560+15

207.072cosα=131.362+15

207.072cosα=146.362

cosα=146.362207.072=0.7068

α=45.02
