Solution

Find the distance of the person from the cliff

Given data:

Time for echo, t=1.5s

Speed,s=310ms-1

Distance=Speed×Time

Time after which the echo is heard=time taken by the sound wave to reach the cliff and come back to the man

The total distance covered by the wave in this process=2d

2d=s×t

d=(s×t)2

Substitute the values

=310×1.52

=232.5m

The distance of the person from the cliff from which the echo is heard.is 232.5m
