The standard depth for recreational sea-diving has been fixed at 39 metres. For diving further below, we require special cladding and expertise. Why are these limits placed?
At higher depth the pressure is too high for humans to withstand.
Pressure increases as we go deeper because pressure is the weight of overlying water on a unit area. Our body has certain limits with respect to external pressure that it can bear. If we are subjected to higher pressure then that may lead to damage and even death. So a standard depth has been defined upto which we can dive without injuring ourselves.
