Question

The standard enthalpies of combustion at 25oC of hydrogen, cyclohexene (C6H10) and cyclohexane (C6H12) are 241,3800 and 3920 kJ mol1 respectively. Calculate the heat of hydrogenation of cyclohexene.

Open in App
Solution

Heat of hydrogenation of cyclohexene = enthalpy of combustion of hydrogen + enthalpy of combustion of cyclohexene - enthalpy of combustion of cyclohexane
Heat of hydrogenation of cyclohexene = 241+(3800)(3920) = 121KJmol1
