Malleus, incus and stapes are three ossicles which are part of the middle ear. They are attached to one another in a chain-like fashion.
The external auditory meatus receives sound waves and passses them to the ear drum also called a tympanic membrane. The tympanic membrane vibrates in response to the sound waves. It then transmits these vibrations to the middle ear. In the middle ear, the ear ossicle malleus transmits the sound vibration to the incus which in turn transmits it to the stapes. The stapes passes the sound vibration to the oval window of the cochlea. This leads to movement of fluid within the cochlea and activation of receptors for hearing.
