Solution

Role of eustachian tube in preventing the rupture of the eardrum:

  1. Eustachian tube is a narrow tube of elastic cartilage that connects the middle ear with the pharynx or throat.
  2. Eustachian tube maintains equal air pressure of both side eardrum.
  3. When a person yawns or swallows, the eustachian tube opens letting out or taking in air through the throat so as to maintain the pressure in the middle ear with the atmospheric pressure.
  4. This maintenance of air pressure inside the middle ear prevents the rupturing of the ear drum.

Hence, Deafness is caused due to the rupturing of the eardrum while pinna is the external ear which conducts the sound vibrations into the inner parts of the ear.
