Let, number of students in the class be $x$ .

So, each student donates $Rs.x$

$\therefore$ Total donation $=Rs.(x\times x)=Rs.x^2$

$\therefore x^2=2401$

$\Rightarrow x=\sqrt{2401}$

$\Rightarrow x=49$

Hence, total number of students in the class is $49$ .
