Consider that the donated $Rs$ is $x$, then as it is given that each student donated as many rupees as the number of students, then the number of students will also be $x$.

Therefore, One student donate $Rsx$.

$x$ student will donate $x\times x=x^2$.

So, $x^2=2401$

$\Rightarrow x=\sqrt{2401}$

$\Rightarrow x=49$

Therefore, there are $49$ students in the class.
