The primary metabolites are required for the growth of the organism. These are the molecules like the sugar, amino acids, proteins, etc.
The secondary metabolites are the products which are released by the plants for the purpose of protection against the other organisms or as a result of environmental stress. The examples of secondary metabolites are resin, oil, alkaloids, flavonoids, etc.
