We take a summation of all these deviations

i=1n(xi-x)=i=1nxi-xi=1n

=i=1nxi-n1nxii=1n …[by definition of arithmetic mean x=1ni=1nxi]

=i=1nxi-xii=1n

i=1n(xi-x)=0

Hence, the sum of all deviations of all the variates from the arithmetic mean is 0.
