The sum of the present ages of a father and his son is 60 years. Six years ago, the father's age was five times the age of his son. After 6 years, the son's age will be:
20
Let father's present age and son's present age be x and y respectively,
Given that x + y = 60 ------> (1)
Six years ago, father's age was x-6 and son's age was y-6
Given that (x−6)=5×(y−6)∴x−6=5y−30
5y - x = 24 -------> (2)
Adding (1) and (2)
6y = 60 + 24
y = 14
Son's present age is 14, so after 6 years, son's age will be 20.
