let present age of son = x
present age of father =y
given that x+y = 92 ------------------------------1
10 years ago
age of son = x-10
age of father= y-10
given that (x-10)*(y-10) = 1100 ------------------- 2
from x+y=92 we can write y = 92-x
now equation 2 becoms ;
(x-10)*(92-x-10)=1100
(x-10)*(82-x) =1100
82x-820+10x-x^2 =1100
x^2 -92x +1920 = 0
solving this quadratic equation,
we get
x= 60 or 32
y = 92-x
y = 32 or 60
since y is the age of father it has to be more.
ie
present age of son = x = 32
present age of father =y= 60
