The correct option is C

lie between 5 and 7.


Let the two numbers be x and y.

Let us assume that x is greater than y.

Given, the sum of these two numbers is 12. i.e. x+y=12

Also, given that, the difference of these two numbers is 1. i.e. xy=1

We know that (x+y)+(xy)=2x

Then, 12+1=2x

2x=13

x=6.5

Then x+y=12 implies that y=5.5 [xy=1 may be considered too]

Hence the two required numbers are 6.5 and 5.5.

Therefore option (c) is the correct one.
