Let the number be x.
Then the other number = x + 9
Sum of the two numbers = 25

$\Rightarrow$ x + x + 9 = 25
⇒ 2x + 9 = 25
⇒ 2x = 25 - 9
⇒ 2x = 16
⇒ x = 8
Therefore, x + 9 = 8 + 9 = 17
Hence, the two numbers are 8 and 17.
