Solution

Let the first number = x

and the second number = y

According to question,

x + y = 4500 ....(i)

and 10% x = 12.5% y

i.e. 10x = 12.5y

x=12.510y ....(ii)

Substitute the value of x in equation (i),

12.510y+y=45,00012.5+10y=45,00022.5y=45,000y=45,00022.5=2000

Now, put the value of y in equation (ii)

x=12.510×2000x=2500

Hence, the numbers are 2500 and 2000
