The sun sends out coronal mass ejection having charged particles continuously towards the earth at a constant rate of 1.6 C/s throughout the day. Assuming that the sun and earth are maintained at a potential difference of 10,000 volts, find the energy received by India in 5 days. Given India receives 10% of the total energy received by the earth. Assume that India faces the sun 12 hours per day on an average.
Assuming India faces the sun for 12 hrs each day
Now, Q = It
= 1.6 x 5 x 12 x 60 x 60 = 345600 C
Energy or Work done = qV
E = 345600 x 10000 = 3.45 x 109 J
India receives only 10% of the total energy being received by the face of earth so we get 10 % of the above number i.e. 3.45 x 108 J
