Human cells have 23 pairs of chromosomes, out of which 22 pairs are autosomes and one pair is of sex chromosomes. This pair has two different chromosomes as X and Y and their distribution in males and females differs. Females have a perfect pair of sex chromosomes, as XX. But males have a mismatched pair (XY) in which one is a larger X chromosome while the other one is short called the Y chromosome.
