Question

The table shows a familiar pattern from geometry. Determine what the variables x and y represent. Then write a function rule that relates y to x.

Is the function a linear function?

Solution

We know if the power of x and y is 1 then function is linear.

Here, x is is diameter of circle and y is the circumference.

We know, Area of circle y=πd where (diameter) d=x given.

Thus, function rule: y=πx

As the power of x and y is 1 therefore, function is linear.

Hence, the given function is linear.
