• Taj Mahal is situated in Agra which has several industries.
• The pollutants from industries are released into the air including oxides of sulfur and nitrogen.
• The oxides of sulfur and nitrogen react with water vapors in the atmosphere and form sulphuric acid (H₂SO₄) and nitric acid (HNO₃) which come down on earth in the form of rain and this is known as acid rain.
• The acid rain reacts with the marble of the Taj Mahal which is made up of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) and this has resulted in the change of color of the marble of the Taj Mahal from white to pale yellow.
• Thus, the Taj Mahal at Agra is getting damaged due to acid rain
