Solution
Taj Mahal is situated in Agra which has several industries.
The pollutants from industries are released into the air including oxides of sulfur and nitrogen.
The oxides of sulfur and nitrogen react with water vapors in the atmosphere and form sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and nitric acid (HNO3) which come down on earth in the form of rain and this is known as acid rain.
The acid rain reacts with the marble of the Taj Mahal which is made up of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and this has resulted in the change of color of the marble of the Taj Mahal from white to pale yellow.
Thus, the Taj Mahal at Agra is getting damaged due to acid rain
