Solution

The correct option is B M cell of peyer's patches
  • Shigella infection is caused by the ingestion of bacteria of Shigella genus.
  • It causes infection usually in the gut cavity, where it invades the epithelial lining of the colon causing the death of the epithelial cells which in turn causes inflammation which result in dysentery.
  • It invades the host through the M cells interspersed in the gut epithelium of small intestine which are supposed to delivery the pathogenic cells to the target human cells such as lymphoid or the B lymphocytes. But the Shigella secrets some effector protein which can alter the metabolism of the target cells which will facilitate the intracellular translocation of the bacterium inside the host cell.
  • After this invasion the bacterium divides in the host cell intracellularly along the neighbouring epithelial cells. These bacterium after spreading infection will destroy the tissue they have infected. Due to which the patient suffers from severe dysentery and sometimes with blood in stool.
  • So, the correct answer is' M cell of peyer's patches'
