The taxi charges in a city comprise of a fixed charge together with the charge for the distance covered. For a journey of 10 km, the charge paid are Rs. 75 and for a journey of 15 km, the charges paid are Rs. 110. What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 25 km?

Let the fixed charge be x and charge of distance covered be y per km.

According to the question,

x+10y=75 …… (1)

x+15y=110 …… (2)

Solving equations (1) and (2), we get

x=Rs. 5 and y=Rs. 7

Therefore, total charge to cover a distance of 25 km,

5+25×7=5+175=Rs. 180

Hence, this is the required result.
