Milk :

  1. The milk that we drink comes from cows, buffaloes, and goats.
  2. Milk can be defined as a liquid enriched with vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, and carbohydrates and is usually termed an animal product.
  3. Milk contains carbohydrate lactose, saturated fatty acids, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus zinc, chloride, casein and whey protein, vitamin A and vitamin B1.
  4. Milk obtained from cows is less fatty than obtained from buffaloes i.e. it has more calories than cow's milk.
  5. Milk obtained from goats has lower calcium, and phosphorus content than buffalo milk and higher calcium and phosphorus content than cow milk and contains higher amounts of minerals such as magnesium and chloride as compared to cow and buffalo milk.
  6. In humans, the milk secreted by the mammary glands of the mother after the delivery of the baby is called colostrum which also contains all the essential nutrients required for the growth and development of a young one.
