Question

The tops of two poles of height $$16\ m$$ and $$10\ m$$ are connected by a wire of length $$l$$ metres. If the wire makes an angle of $$30^{o}$$ with the horizontal then find $$l$$.


Solution

Let $$AE$$ be a pole of $$10\ m$$ and $$BD$$  be the another pole of $$16\ m$$ and $$DE$$ be the wire.

From the figure,
$$CD=16-10=6\ m$$

Now,
In $$\triangle CDE$$,
$$\sin30^\circ=\dfrac{CD}{DE}$$
$$DE=2\times 6=12\ m.$$

Hence, this is the answer.
