$$\begin{gathered} 4x+2y=140 \\ \Rightarrow 2x+y=70.....\left(\mathrm{II}\right) \end{gathered}$$
Subtracting (II) from (I) we have
$$\begin{gathered} x=20 \\ y=30 \end{gathered}$$
Thus, the number of lions = 20 and the number of peacocks = 30.
