Solution

Step 1: Propagation of sound

To travel, the sound needed a medium. Sound cannot propagate in a vacuum because there is no medium to transmit sound waves. Therefore, solid, liquid, and gas molecules carry sound waves from one point to another, and their propagation requires a material medium such as a solid, liquid, or gas.

Sound cannot propagate in a vacuum because there are no molecules in the vacuum that can vibrate and carry sound waves.

Step 2: Explanation for clear sound at night

  1. When the sound is triggered, the velocity, pitch, and volume are triggered by vibration. There are various vibrations around us during the day. This reduces the amplitude of the vibration.
  2. At night, there is no such interference, so the sound is clearer.

Hence, the sound of the clock appears to be much clearer at night.
