Trachea or windpipe runs from the pharynx to lungs and allows air passage through it. The tracheal wall is supported by 'C' shaped cartilaginous rings. These rings give firm support to the tracheal tube and without the rings, it would collapse. The cartilage also allows expansion of trachea during air passage.
