Transport of gases takes place by diffusion inside the cells. When oxygen-rich blood reaches the cells, oxygen which is in higher concentration in the blood diffuses into the region of low concentration i.e., inside the cell. Simultaneously, carbon dioxide, which is in higher concentration inside the cell, diffuses into the blood.
