The transverse section of a stem of a tree shows the total number of 80 annual rings. Find the number of the rings of spring wood and approximate age of the tree?

Total number of annual rings = 80

Since total number of annual rings are equal to the number of rings of spring wood and number of rings of autumn wood together.

Also, number of rings of spring wood = number of rings of autumn wood.

Thus, the number of rings of spring wood = 80/2 = 40.

The total number of annual rings give an estimate of the age of tree. Thus the age of tree will be 80 years.
