Solution
Silicon has greater nuclear charge of +14 than Aluminium which has +13 nuclear change. Hence the unpaired 3p electron in the silicon will experience more effective nuclear charge than Aluminium.
Effective nuclear charge in Silicon :- 14 protons in the nucleus surrounded by 14 electrons in which 10 electrons shield the ′4" valency electrons.
Hence effective nuclear charge is +4. Effective nuclear charge in Aluminium :- 13 protons in the nucleus surrounded by 13 electrons. Hence the effective nuclear charge is "0" as there is no shielding effect.
