Novels are the valuable source of information on native life and customs.
Information given by the novels were useful in governing the Indian society with its large diversity of caste and communities.
Being outsider they do not know much about the life inside Indian households.
The novels had details about domestic life, hoe people dressed, their way of worship, their beliefs, practices and so on.
Some of these novels were translated into English bu British administrator and Christian missionaries.
