Let us consider the number as b.
We know that the number becomes 48 if we add 12 to it, that is, b + 12 = 48.
36 + 12 = 48
We also know the number becomes 12 if we subtract 24 from it, let us check,
b - 24 = 12, for b=36
36 - 24 = 12
