Solution

The correct option is D
5.14
The value of Nc in Meyerhof's bearing capacity equation for shallow and deep footings is same as were given by prandtl where

Nc=(Nq1) cot ϕ...(i)

This differs from Terzaghi's Nc values and are lesser than those of Terzaghi's. When ϕ=0, Such as for cohesive and saturated clays existing under undrained conditions, the value of Nc from equation (1) becomes , and hence indeterminate. In such a case, the ultimate bearing capacity is to be determined by an alternate prandtl equation.
qf=5.14Cu+γDf
The value of Nc is thus taken as equal to 5.14 at ϕ=0
