We know that the density of a material is given by,
ρ=MV, where, M is mass and V is volume.
So, Δρρ=ΔVV ........(1)
Also, volume expansion,
ΔV=γVΔT
ΔVV=γΔT
ΔVV=5×104×40
ΔVV=0.020
From (1),
Δρρ=0.02
Negative sign signifies that as temperature increases, volume increases and density decreases.
