Question

The vapor pressure of water is 12.3 KPa at 300K. Calculate the vapor pressure of 1 molal solution of a non-volatile solute in it.

Open in App
Solution

PH2O=PA=12.3 K Pascal

Let moles of solute be 1
and mass of water be 1000 g=1 kg

Number of moles of water =100018=55.5 moles

According to Raoult's law of
vapor pressure of solute

Psolute=χsolute×Psolute/total

Psolute=156.5×12300 Pascal

=217.7 Pascal
