Question

The vapour density of a sample of hydrogen fluoride gas is found to be 12.5. If it is due to dimerisation of some HF molecules to H2F2 molecules, then the percentage of HF molecules dimerised is: (F = 19)

Solution

By using the formula,
Vapour density=Molar Mass2
Molar Mass= Vapour density ×2
Mavg=12.5×2=252HF H2F21α α/21α/2=ntotal
Mole = mass /molar mass
(1α2)×25=1×20α=0.4
