The velocity of sound in air is 336 m/s and in water it is 1440 m/s. Wavelength of sound waves in air is 1.75 m. What is the frequency and wavelength of sound waves in water? [7 marks]

Velocity of sound in air, v=336 m/s
Velocity of sound in water, v=1440 m/s
Wavelength of sound waves in air, λ=1.75 m
So the frequency of sound in air, f=vλ=3361.75
f=192 Hz
[3 marks]
Frequency does dont change with the medium, it is the property of the source of sound. So, the frequency in water will remain the same that is 192 Hz. [2 marks]
So the wavelength of wave in water will be, λw=vf
λw=1440192=7.5 m
