Solution

The correct option is D 510 m/s

The velocity of sound in a medium inversely varies with the square root of the density of the medium, that is

v1ρ

Also, Density of hydrogen = ρH=2

Density of oxygen = ρO=32

The the ratio of H: O in the mixture is 2:1.

Density of the hydrogen and oxygen mixture

=ρmix=(2)(2)+(1)(32)2+1

=363

=12

vH at 0=1248ms1

thus vmix=?

Applying the following equation,

vmix=vHρHρmix

vmix=vH212

=vH×.1667

=1248×0.40829

510m/s

Option C is correct.
