Solution

The correct option is A 4000 ml
Vital Capacity (VC) is the maximum volume of air that can be exhaled following a deep inspiration. This is the total of IRV + TV + ERV. In a healthy young adult, IRV measures about 3 L and the ERV is approximately 1.1 L. TV is about 500 ml in an averagely built (70 kg), healthy, young adult. Lung capacity depends on various factors such as age, sex, weight and activity. Females have 20-25% lower capacity than male. Hence, the VC is about 4 to 4.6 litres.
