Solution

Step 1: Given data,

R1=50Ω

R2=20Ω

R3=10Ω

V=170V

Step 2. Formula used,

For parallel resistance,

Equivalent resistance, Req1=R1×R2R1+R2

R1 is the 50Ωresistance

R2 is the 20Ωresistance

For series resistance,

Equivalent resistance, Req2=R3+Req1

R3 is the 10Ωresistance

V=IR, V is the potential, I is the current

Step 3. Calculating the equivalent resistance:-

To calculate the equivalent resistance in parallel as

Req1=R1×R2R1+R2

Req1=50×2050+20

Req1=100070Ω

Req1=1007Ω

For series,

Req2=R3+Req1Req2=10+1007Req2=1707Ω

Step 4. Calculating the current,

I=VReq2=1701707=7A

Step 5. Calculating the voltage,

7A current will flow through 10Ω the resistor,

Potential across10Ω,

V10=7×10

V10=70V

Hence, the value of x to the nearest integer is 70V
