The volume of certain gas was found to be $400 c m^{3}$ when pressure was $520 m m H g$ . If the pressure $P_{r}$ is increased by $30$ %, find the new volume of the gas.

Given,

$P_{1} = 520 m m H g = 0.68 a t m$

$V_{1} = 0.4 l i t r e s$
Pressure increased by 30%,
$∴ P_{2} = 520 + 520 \times \frac{30}{100} 676 m m H g$

$P_{2} = 676 m m H g = 0.89 a t m$

$V_{2} = ?$

Using Boyle’s law, $P_{1} V_{1} = P_{2} V_{2}$

$0.68 \times 0.4 = 0.89 \times V_{2}$

$V_{2} = 0.3 l i t e r s = 300 c m^{3}$
