Question

The volume of one mole of an ideal gas with the adiabatic exponent γ is changed according to the relation V=aT where a is a constant. Find the amount of heat absorbed by the gas in the process, if the temperature is increased by ΔT.

Open in App
Solution

The given process is V=aT
VT=a=constant
Comparing with TVm1=constant we get m1=1
m=2

Molar specific heat of the gas C=Rγ1+R1m

C=Rγ1+R1(2)=(γ2)Rγ1

Number of moles of the gas n=1
Heat absorbed by the gas Q=nCΔT

Q=1×(γ2)Rγ1×ΔT=(γ2)(γ1)RΔT
