Total energy loss, Etotal=Et1+Et2

Et1=t10V.i.dt

As voltage across the switch is constant i.e. 500 V

=500t10i.dt=500×12×(0.4×106)×40=4mJ

Similarity Et2=t20Vi.dt

As switch current is constant i.e. 30A

Et2=30t20V.dt=30×12×(0.4×106)×500=3 mJ
